ATI Certification Procedure 

If you have questions about becoming an ATI Certified Teacher, contact the Chair of the Certification Coordinating Committee (CCC).  


To apply to become an ATI Certified Teaching Member, please follow these steps:


1. Am I Ready?

If you want to become an ATI Certified Teaching Member, please read ATI's evaluation criteria and determine whether you feel ready to complete the process.

2. Complete Demonstration of Knowledge (DOK)

Candidates must submit a brief video or piece of writing demonstrating their knowledge in three content areas:  

  1. Alexander's writings
  2. Anatomy
  3. Ethics.

Once you have completed your Demonstration of Knowledge, contact the Certification Coordination Committee to be assigned a reviewer who will provide feedback about the completeness, accuracy, and clarity of your submission. You may choose to incorporate the feedback before submitting your demonstration of knowledge to your ATI Sponsors


3. Code of Ethics

Read and sign Code of Ethics.

NOTE: this can be done while you wait to hear from the reader assigned to your DOK


 4. Schedule Your Evaluations

Secure 3 ATI Sponsors & Schedule Evaluations

  • Contact the ATI Sponsors of your choice to arrange an evaluation.
    • ATI Sponsors are located in many countries (see our list of ATI Sponsors).  Many travel to other countries to attend conferences or give workshops, so it may be possible to meet with them then. 
    • Some are also offering online evaluation sessions.
  • Occasionally, ATI schedules dedicated days for evaluation connected to our Annual Conference.  On the years that ATI has scheduled such the Pre-Day Event, candidates may schedule up to three evaluations via the Certification Coordinating Committee if enough ATI Sponsors have volunteered to be available on those days. Fees for evaluation sessions vary according to country. 

 

Make sure to send each ATI Sponsor:

  1. A copy of your training certificate or a letter from an Alexander Technique teacher stating that successfully completed a training process
  2. Your Demonstration of Knowledge (DOK) after you have discussed it with a reader
  3. Signed Code of Ethics

5. Upon Completion of In-Person Evaluations with all three ATI Sponsors



6. Upload & Submit

  • All three completed and signed Candidate Evaluation Forms From Sponsors
  • A Copy of your Training Certificate or letter from an AT Teacher stating that you have successfully complted a training course
  • Signed Code of Ethics
  • Candidate Questionnaire
  • Demonstration of Knowledge
  • Application for becoming an ATI Teacher

7. Continuing Education

ATI requires continuing education in order to renew your Teaching Certificate. You will report your credits every three years. For more information about the Continuing Education process, click here
